Summary: The Aquatics Supervisor oversees the operation and programming of the city's aquatic facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and enjoyable experience for patrons. This role includes supervising lifeguards and other aquatic staff, maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations, and delivering exceptional customer service. Essential Functions: Manage daily operations of aquatic facilities, including scheduling, staffing, and maintenance. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards, swim instructors, and other aquatics staff. Develop and implement swim lessons, water safety courses, and special aquatic events. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations. Monitor water quality and facility cleanliness to ensure safety and compliance. Coordinate with contractors and city departments for facility maintenance and repairs. Manage budgets, inventory, and purchasing of supplies and equipment. Respond to emergencies, enforce safety rules, and ensure lifeguard preparedness.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Recreation, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in athletic programming or facility management. Knowledge of sports rules, regulations, and best practices. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. CPR, First Aid, and other relevant certifications (or ability to obtain within six months).

Serves as Manager on Duty by overseeing facility operations, including opening and closing the facility, completing daily deposit reports, and serving as the primary point of contact for staff and patrons during assigned shifts. Provides customer service to facility members, guests and program participants by responding to customer inquiries, addressing concerns/problems, communicating facility rules and procedures and directing customers to appropriate areas. Plan, schedule, and conduct regular in-service training sessions for lifeguards, focusing on maintaining proficiency in emergency response and safety protocols. Ensure all lifeguards are current with required certifications and coordinate recertification as necessary. Maintain daily records and reports for chemical balancing, pool maintenance, accidents/incidents, and maintenance requests. Monitor and adjust pool chemicals to meet water quality standards, and perform routine maintenance tasks, including backwashing filters and swapping strainer baskets, to ensure optimal pool operations.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION This position will work under the direction of the Director of Parks & Recreation or designee. The Recreation Superintendent is responsible for various functions of the Booker T. Washington Recreation Center, Splash Station, Senior Center, Museum divisions and is responsible for the annual budget of those divisions. Performs management and administrative oversight of activities, programing, staff training, rental scheduling, recreation software, contracts and various other projects at a high level and in a fast-paced environment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in Park, Recreation, Business, Public Administration, Management, or other related field plus a minimum of four (4) years of experience parks and recreation, with at least two (2) year of which involved supervisory and managerial responsibilities; OR High school diploma or its equivalent and at least six (6) years of experience in municipal parks and recreation, with at least three (3) of which involved supervisory and managerial responsibilities (some college courses in parks, recreation desirable); OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
